Lutheran and Adams Central’s departure from Class A to 2A last year opened the door for two new teams to make a run to the state finals.
Providence took advantage, winning the program’s first state championship with a 35-20 victory over North Judson. Here are three games that will shape Class A this season, followed by a look at the local teams in the class:
Sheridan at Greenwood Christian, Friday: These might be the two strongest Class A teams in Central Indiana, which should make for an interesting result in the opener. First-year Sheridan coach Jake Chesney has several returners, including senior running back Alex Cravens. Greenwood Christian played its first season as sectional eligible team last year.
