AIKEN, S.C. (WRDW/WAGT) - For years, drivers have documented hundreds of vehicle fires, and now an Aiken County family is sharing their story.
“There are a lot of things that could’ve went wrong,” said Matthew Lex. “God was definitely with me again. He was definitely with me that day.”
On June 6, 2025, in the trolley run neighborhood in Aiken County , the Welsh family says a shell is the only thing that’s left of their Kia Soul that was parked right out front after catching fire.
“This vehicle was turned off. It was not actively running, and it just the smoke engulfed it, and then it just took off. It just ignited the whole house,” said Cheryl Welsh.
