RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — Students in North Carolina's largest school district go back to class on Monday. Many of them will be taught by first time teachers at Wake County Schools.

21-year-old Sarah Carter said she is ready for her first day of teaching eight grade students at Dillard Drive Magnet Middle School. She got a head start in her teaching career through the Future Teachers Program, which she said she will make a difference in teaching many students' least favorite subject, math.

"It's its own thing. I was one of those kids that struggled with math. I know what it feels like, and it does not feel great to not know what’s going on," said Carter.
