GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — While a new baby will need all the essentials, the cost can add up.

An event happening Saturday is aimed at helping Kent County families with just that. Paula Brown, an organizer for the community baby shower sponsored by Great Start Collaborative, said it’s the third year of the event.

“We started this initiative because we wanted to start connecting with families early on,” Brown said.

The first year, the organization received an “overwhelming response.” Since then, more resources have been added to the shower. You can expect food, games, prizes and giveaways.

“Everyone will leave with something. We’re going to be passing out pack ‘n plays, we’ll have diapers, we’ll have book bundles — because literacy is important, even at that early time as well — we’ll
