DUNLAP ( 25News Now ) - A new law signed by Gov. JB Pritzker on Wednesday will ban tickets or fees for breaking city code violations on school grounds.

Now in law, Senate Bill 1519 states that no one is allowed to issue a fine or fee to a student as a disciplinary consequence for behavior that occurs during school hours.

At Dunlap Community School District 323 , Superintendent Dr. Scott Dearman said they don’t ticket the students in their schools; instead, counseling and one-on-one conversations are two preferred methods.

He said he believes fining students for violating school rules is not an effective way to address behavior.
