Students at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga are still shaken after a false report of an active shooter spread across campus, sparking lockdowns, panic, and fear.

Freshman Trinity Ricer says she was in her statistics class when one of her classmates received a chilling message about a possible shooter.

The message reads: "UTC-ALERT: Possible active shooter in University Center or Library. Run. Hide. Fight. More info forthcoming."

“It was really surreal, it was kind of scary,” Ricer said. “The next thing I knew, they had barricaded the door with tables and chairs, and I went to the corner of the room and just stayed there the whole lockdown.”

The message included only two details — the alleged shooter was either in the library or the University Center. That vague warning left
