DAYTON, Ky. (WXIX) - A Northern Kentucky community is coming together to raise money for a 3-year-old who was badly burned in a fire and his family.

Marshall Kilgore said his family is taking it step-by-step ever since the Aug. 12 fire severely burned his son, Braxtyn.

The fire happened in the early morning at a home on Fifth Avenue in Dayton, Kentucky.

Kilgore said he heard his daughter screaming from an upstairs bedroom.

The fire quickly consumed the room, where his three children had been sleeping.

Kilgore said he ran upstairs into a cloud of thick black smoke that day and was able to rescue two of his kids, but felt around and couldn’t find 3-year-old Braxtyn.

“He didn’t know because he’s autistic, and he’s just sitting there on my dresser, and he didn’t know,” Kilgore described.
