LE MARS, Iowa (KTIV) - Two hundred union workers at a Le Mars dairy plant are now on strike after a dispute with their employer over working conditions.

Those workers at the Kemp’s plant in Le Mars are represented by Teamsters Local 554.

Adrian Macias, an organizer for Teamsters Local 544 tells KTIV the workers “are practicing an unfair labor practices strike, seeking better working conditions and safety, and are negotiating in good faith with Kemp’s.”

He says they hope to reach a deal to return to work soon, with a virtual negotiation session planned for Friday afternoon.

Union leaders say they’ve been negotiating with the plant, a subsidiary of the Dairy Farmers of America, since March on a new contract.
