COLUMBUS, Ohio — A Columbus woman accused in the death of a 3-year-old boy in January was found not competent to stand trial.

According to Franklin County Court of Common Pleas records, Judge Kimberly Cocroft ruled 45-year-old Laronda Mims incompetent to stand trial because of her mental condition.

Mims could possibly be competent to stand trial within one year after she undergoes treatment to restore her competency, according to the court order.

As part of the order, Mims is not allowed to move through the behavioral hospital unit unsupervised or to leave the unit, even with supervision, court documents say.

Mims was indicted by a Franklin County grand jury on Jan. 28 on two counts of endangering children and one count of involuntary manslaughter after the boy in Franklinton.
