An erratic driver who stirred a minor panic before crashing into a parked car in a pedestrian-only part of Kelowna’s downtown core on Wednesday night was not trying to hurt anyone, police say.
At about 8 p.m., Kelowna RCMP responded to a report of a hit and run after a car was driven erratically along Bernard Avenue, Abbott Street, Clement Avenue, St. Paul Street and Ellis Street.
Officer arrived and saw a driver in a newer model black SUV “performing dangerous manoeuvres within several intersections,” said Cpl. Allison Konsmo, a Kelowna RCMP media spokesperson.
“The vehicle eventually entered the ‘Meet me on Bernard’ pedestrian zone, which is closed to vehicular traffic during the season.”
The SUV finally stopped after it hit a parked vehicle.
“The driver was taken into custody, and
