Royal visits to Papua New Guinea and Japan announced

The Duke of Edinburgh is set to visit Papua New Guinea in September to attend celebrations marking the 50 th anniversary of Papua New Guinea's independence from Australia.

During his stay from Sunday 14 to Wednesday 17, Prince Edward will attend a dawn flag-raising ceremony and a State Dinner. He'll also, on behalf of the King , present new Regimental Colours to the First Royal Pacific Islands Regiment and confer 50 th Independence Anniversary King’s Medals, awarded to individuals who have made significant contributions to Papua New Guinea.

The Duke will also visit the new National Court
