TROY – The Troy Athens Red Hawks knocked off their rivals and hosts, the Troy Colts, 1-0 Thursday night in the Oakland Activities Association Red opener for both teams.

The Red Hawks converted a corner kick just before halftime when Braden Hupman fired a ball towards the back post that Ashton Creech redirected into the net with 2:31 remaining until halftime.

That was the difference in the game. Athens’s best chances continued to come on corner kicks and free kicks, though that was the only goal the Red Hawks could muster – or would need.
