CHANDLER, AZ (AZFamily) — Chandler police officers shot and killed an armed man they said was trying to rob a home in the area on Thursday morning and a major East Valley road was closed for hours.

Chandler police say around 7 a.m., a homeowner called 911 to report that a man was attempting to break into their place near Frye Road and Windstream Place , east of McQueen Road. As officers arrived, the suspect fled the scene and drove off.

The suspect led police on a brief pursuit, during which he rammed at least one police vehicle and crashed into a white Jeep. He was eventually boxed in by three patrol vehicles near McQueen and Pecos roads .
