NORMAN — OU defensive tackles coach Todd Bates has a poem or acronym for everything, and that’s no different when describing his position group.

According to Bates, the Sooners’ D-tackles are T.E.A.M.: Together Even After Meetings. The closeness of Damonic Williams, Gracen Halton, Jayden Jackson, David Stone and company off the field is expected to pay dividends on the field this fall.

“They're putting in time together,” Bates said. “They know each other, so they fight harder for one another. They understand the scheme better and they not only know what they're doing, they know why we're doing it and when we're gonna do it, and they're working through it (with) the mindset of a coach. That's been great to see.”
