An investigation is underway in Springfield, Vermont, where police fatally shot a man Thursday night.

Very few details have been released but Vermont State Police say Springfield officers and the Windsor County Sheriff's Department were on scene when the shooting occurred around 9:30 p.m. on Valley Street between Common Street and Elm Terrace.

The man, whose name has not been publicly shared, was pronounced dead on scene, police said. No members of law enforcement were injured.

It's unclear what led up to the shooting. Authorities haven't said why they were on scene to begin with, with state police only noting that the investigation into the circumstances surrounding this incident is in its initial stages.
