Hurricane Erin , now sitting a few hundred miles off the coast of New Jersey, is bringing strong winds and crashing waves to the Jersey Shore, especially in Cape May County, on Thursday.

In North Wildwood, the public was asked to avoid the area of 2nd to 5th Avenues & John F Kennedy Boulevard as strong waves crashed over the bulkhead, creating dangerous conditions, according to a statement from the North Wildwood Police Department.

West Spruce Avenue was also closed to traffic due to tidal flooding, police said.

There were numerous photos posted on social media of waves and the ocean reaching the boardwalk in Wildwood as well.

In Brigantine in Atlantic County, police closed down the end of the promenade to keep everyone safe as waves were breaking over the structure around 7:30 p.m.,
