A man was convicted last week of gunning down an Elizabeth resident near a city park in 2021, authorities announced Thursday.

Jefferson Louis, 28, of Newark, was found guilty of first-degree murder and weapons-related offenses following a four-week trial, according to a statement from the Union County Prosecutor’s Office.

The investigation began around 12:30 p.m. on Aug. 4, 2021, when Elizabeth Police Officers responded to Jefferson Park for a report of shots fired, the office said.

When they arrived, they found 26-year-old Archeley Brizard dead in his car, investigators said. He had been shot multiple times.

An investigation led by several law enforcement agencies in Elizabeth and Union County charged Louis in October 2021, officials said.
