A Birmingham nursery has suddenly closed following concerns for children's safety.

Ofsted has shut Crescent Day Nursery in Edgbaston over fears that children attending were potentially at risk of harm, Birmingham Live understands.

BirminghamLive understands that the Calthorpe Road nursery, currently under investigation, closed suddenly on Wednesday, August 20.

Ofsted confirmed it had suspended the nursery's registration but said it would not be commenting further.

Parents of children at the nursery now have the challenge of finding alternative childcare arrangements at short notice.

The nursery, part of the Childbase Partnership Group, was rated as 'outstanding' overall by the education watchdog
