GRAND RAPIDS, MI - I have always appreciated the beauty and peacefulness of the Grand River and all it has to offer to our community and others.
More than a decade ago, we reacquainted readers with the state’s longest river. For 17 days during the summer of 2010, we joined the Grand River Expedition to assess the river’s health and welfare, introducing readers to people and communities along the way.
Readers loved it so much a 128-page hardcover book was published called “Our Grand Journey: Discovering the river we thought we knew,” featuring spectacular photographs from The Grand Rapids Press and the stories shared with staff.
I thought about that wonderful book this week when Ehren Wynder reported the project to restore and revitalize the rapids to the Grand River took another step f
