SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) — Less than one week after two Tremonton police officers were shot and killed, the suspected killer is expected to appear in court.

Ryan Michael Bate, 32, is scheduled to appear virtually in court for an initial appearance on Friday, Aug. 22, at 9 a.m. He faces a long list of charges including aggravated murder, attempted murder, conduct to injure or kill a police canine, unlawful detention, assault, and domestic violence.

Among the 20 total charges, Bate faces 10 felonies, including two capital charges. The Box Elder County Attorney's Office has filed a notice of intent to seek the death penalty. He will appear before Judge Spencer D. Walsh of the First District Court.

On August 17, 2025, Bate allegedly shot and killed Sergeant Lee Sorensen and Officer Eric Estrad
