Following the early Friday raid of the home of John Bolton, former White House security advisor, a neighbor of his stormed outside amid the media frenzy to put President Donald Trump “on blast” for targeting his political enemies.
“All of this retribution, vengeance, and using the DOJ, the FBI and the power of government to go after anybody that disagrees with him is frightening,” said the man identified as Bolton’s neighbor, wearing a shirt bearing the phrase “Trump is a national disgrace,” reported Florida’s Voice News Director Eric Daugherty on Friday.
“And it’s only going to get worse if we don’t do something to make it stop. It scares the crap out of me.”
Trump has dubbed Bolton a “low life,” attacking him as recently as Friday morning after the raid for criticizing him in media appearances. The Trump administration has also demonstrated a willingness to wield the Justice Department as a tool to target his political enemies.
Edward Martin, Trump’s pick for DOJ pardon attorney, drew scrutiny recently for sharing a threatening social media post targeting New York Attorney General Tish James, who successfully sued Trump for fraud and slapped him with a fine of more than $355 million.
Trump has also instructed his DOJ to investigate the Democratic fundraising platform ActBlue, and has issued executive orders to restrict federal contracts with law firms that had handled cases adverse to Trump. Trump’s DOJ has also launched a criminal probe into former President Barack Obama over allegations that he and others manufactured a narrative that Trump colluded with Russia during the 2016 election.
The raid on Bolton’s home is linked to an investigation over the mishandling of classified documents, with Newsmax reporting earlier on Friday that the raid was sparked after CIA Director John Ratcliffe shared intelligence with FBI Director Kash Patel.
