GULFPORT, Miss. (WLOX) - A Gulfport man was sentenced for a 2023 stabbing that killed 44-year-old Damien Lindsey.
Octavius Louis Lejuan Benton, Sr., 51, pled guilty to manslaughter and unlawful possession of a weapon by a convicted felon.
A judge sentenced him to 30 years in the custody of the Mississippi Department of Corrections.
Surveillance footage showed Lindsey and Benton’s girlfriend outside Feed My Sheep in Gulfport. According to authorities, Lindsey struck the woman, prompting Benton to stab Lindsey in the abdomen.
Lindsey later died at a nearby hospital following surgery.
“The emotions could be felt from both Lindsey’s family and Benton’s family during the plea hearing,” said Assistant District Attorney Haley Broom, who prosecuted the case.
