IOWA CITY, Iowa — The Iowa City Fire Department has announced the promotion of Lt. Axel Swanson to Fire Marshal, following the retirement of Fire Marshal Troy Roth.

Swanson joined the department on January 2, 2001, and became a lieutenant on August 30, 2011. He holds credentials as a Fire Officer and has served in various roles, including code inspector and fire investigator.

As Fire Marshal, Swanson will focus on community risk reduction. His responsibilities include fire investigations and ensuring commercial buildings comply with the International Fire Code. He will also oversee the inspection of construction sites and coordinate commercial inspection efforts.
