Cornwall goalkeeper Brad Zimmer spends much of his free time watching English Premier League (EPL) soccer.
As much as he tunes in for entertainment, he studies the goalkeepers, watching how they react after giving up a goal, whether it be a banger or due to a miscue. Much of playing goalie is a mental game. You can’t get too high or too low, and the mild-mannered Zimmer has seemingly mastered the art.
“Soccer is physical, but the mental pieces are the most important,” Zimmer, a senior, said. “You make a mistake, and you have to have a short memory, or it will impact you right away. You watch those guys in the Premier League make a mistake, and they respond with a crazy save. You have to stay sharp and have a positive attitude.”
