COLD SPRING – Putnam County residents are mourning the passing of their chief law enforcement official.

Sheriff Kevin McConville, who was 68, died at his Cold Spring home Friday morning with his family at his side.

McConville, former chief of the MTA Police, was elected sheriff in 2021. He announced a reelection bid in January, but suspended the campaign in June due to failing health.

As word of McConville’s death spread, officials on the state, county, town and village levels expressed their condolences.
