Lyndhurst resident Nancy Barnett began her volunteer work in the comfort care space after rescuing and adopting Morgan, a golden retriever. Since then, the pair has volunteered with PetPals, a therapy program that trains volunteers and their dogs to make in-room visits to adults and children in need of comfort and distraction during difficult times.

CJN: How did you get into volunteering?

Volunteering is in my DNA. Something that my mom always did, and she instilled in me that if you have the time and you are able, you do what you can to make the world a better place.

CJN: Why was volunteering important for you?

My dog is my main thing. I mean, she is such a gift. I spend a lot of time in the pediatric psychiatric ward at the hospital. She can just calm anybody down. So, I hope that
