One district school is slated to close at the end of the school year.

The 2025-26 school year is the first time the district will have a universal policy limiting cell phone use.

New principals, programs, policies and partnerships await Des Moines Public Schools students when they return to class Aug. 25.

Changes this year include more than a dozen new principals, expanded busing for preschool students and the district will begin implementing portions of its Reimagining Education, Reinvigorating Schools plan, including a program aimed at helping students prepare for life after high school, according to a district news release.
