A Door County rafter and shipwreck hunter has discovered a ship that went missing 138 years ago in Lake Michigan.

Matt Olson, owner of Door County Adventure Rafting, was scouting for new rafting spots near Rowleys Bay, when he noticed the ship, according to a news release from the Wisconsin Historical Society.

In follow-up diving missions, the Historical Society's maritime archaeologists identified the ship as the Frank D. Barker, a two-masted, 137-foot-long wooden vessel that sank in 1887.

Olson — who has previously discovered two other shipwrecks — is a Door County local who grew up hunting for lost ships in Lake Michigan.
