PEMBROKE, N.Y. — A tour bus carrying more than 50 passengers from Niagara Falls to New York City crashed and rolled over Friday afternoon on the New York State Thruway near Pembroke, killing and injuring multiple people, according to State Police.

The crash happened when the bus lost control just before the Pembroke exit. Passengers were thrown from the vehicle as windows shattered.

"At this time we have multiple fatalities, multiple entrapments and multiple injuries," Trooper James O’Callahan, a spokesperson for the New York State Police , said at the scene.

O’Callahan said the bus was traveling eastbound when "for unknown reasons the vehicle lost control, went into the median, overcorrected and ended up in the ditch, which would be on the right side of the roadway." The driver survi
