An advisory committee voted to halt future county investments in the Israeli government after expiration of its current bonds.
Lucas County’s treasurer faced pressure to halt the county’s investment in Israeli bonds at a meeting Friday, surrounded by more than three dozen demonstrators holding signs reading: “Lucas County stop investing in genocide”
Commissioners Pete Gerken and Anita Lopez voted in favor, and were joined by Clerk of Courts J. Bernie Quilter. Commissioner Lisa Sobecki and Treasurer Lindsay Webb voted against.
The county holds about $5 million in Israeli bonds, about 1 percent of its portfolio. The bonds reach maturity in December, 2026.
