Cleveland City Councilman Joe Jones should immediately resign from City Council and agree not to serve again. After an outside investigation found that Jones repeatedly threatened to kill a longtime council staffer , the 56-year-old needs to acknowledge the seriousness of his misdeeds -- not try to minimize them, as he’s done -- and accept that he’s not fit to serve any longer.

At the same time, Cleveland City Council leadership needs to stop trying to mollycoddle Jones, and immediately release the full investigations into Jones’ misbehavior and his bullying of staff -- both the latest one and an earlier one.

The names of impacted staffers can be redacted as needed, but it’s not appropriate to spend thousands of dollars of the public’s money on outside investigations that no one in the
