Since making a visit to one of Leicestershire's Green Flag-awarded country parks earlier this month, I was curious to know how many there are across the whole of Leicestershire. I was surprised to find Leicestershire County Council (LCC) maintains 17 nature-filled areas of the county.

Thinking of where I'd go for my next visit, I took a look at the various country parks on our doorstep . There is a huge variety to choose from, but not all are managed by LCC.

Eleven of our country parks are maintained by other organisations, with the likes of Bradgate Park & Swithland Wood Country Park managed by the Bradgate Park Trust. Brocks Hill Country Park is managed by Oadby and Wigston Borough Council, Burbage Common and Woods is run by Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council, while Coleorton
