Flooding caused by Hurricane Erin led to 34 people being evacuated from two restaurants in Margate Thursday night.

Thirty people had to be evacuated from Sofia Restaurant on Amherst Avenue and four people from Tomatoes, according to the city's police department.

Also overnight, 18 people had to be rescued from vehicles stuck in flood waters, according to city police.

In Brigantine, large waves pounded the city's promenade on the north end of the island, where a large group of people had gathered to watch the storm. As the waves grew stronger, the city had to temporarily close a section of the promenade for the safety of the crowd, Mayor Vince Sera said.

Brigantine estimated two to three feet of sand loss in some areas, Sera said.
