MANHATTAN, N.Y. (PIX11) — The Metropolitan Opera is again hosting its popular Summer HD Festival featuring free screenings at Lincoln Center Plaza starting Saturday.
The festival kicks off with a special screening of Michael Mayer’s new production of Verdi’s Aida, on Friday and Saturday at 8 p.m.
The presentations are shown on a massive screen on the façade of the Met’s iconic opera house.
The series continues at 8 p.m. on Sunday with Beethoven’s Fidelio.
There are 11 free performances from Aug. 22 to Sept. 1, with approximately 2,500 seats available on a first-come, first-served basis.
The works will be projected onto a screen on the facade of the opera house. The screenings include Verdi’s “Aida”, Beethoven’s “Fidelio”, Strauss’ “Salome”, and Mozart’s “Le Nozze di Figaro.”
