Gatton Park is named for businessman and philanthropist Carol Martin “Bill” Gatton. You’ll find his name in a lot of places.
He was a graduate of the University of Kentucky and went on to form the Bill Gatton Automotive Group. He had dealerships in Kentucky, Tennessee, Texas, and Alabama.
He was a big proponent of giving his money to causes he believed in. He is the single largest donor in the history of the University of Kentucky.
In 1995, Gatton donated millions of dollars to the College of Business and Economics at UK. It was later renamed “the Carol Martin Gatton College of Business and Economics.”
