NORTH BRANFORD, Conn. — A Florida man was sentenced to prison following a North Branford crash that killed a man in 2024.
James Black, 42, of Myakka City, Florida, was sentenced on Tuesday to 18 years in prison, execution suspended after 10 years served, followed by five years of probation.
Black pleaded guilty in in June to charges of Manslaughter in the First Degree, Evading Responsibility, and Tampering with Physical Evidence.
Officials said in court that Black was driving his pickup at 75-80 mph after consuming five beers at a nearby bar, and fatally struck David Horbal, 67, while he was walking home from work on Foxon Road in North Branford on March 28, 2024.
