Gov. Tate Reeves has approved the deployment of hundreds of Mississippi National Guard members to Washington, D.C., in support of the President Donald J. Trump administration's federal crackdown on crime and homelessness — which was met with an outbreak of protests.
Reeves once called his own capital city, Jackson, the "murder capital of the world" just under two years ago.
Jackson's per capita homicide rate still remains among the highest in the United States when compared to cities with populations of at least 130,000. That includes major cities with populations well above Jackson's, such as Chicago, Baltimore, New Orleans and Baton Rouge.
