CADILLAC — The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has released its latest five-year review of the Cadillac Superfund Site, highlighting both progress and ongoing challenges in the city’s decades-long effort to address contamination from historic industrial operations.

According to an Aug. 22 news release from the City of Cadillac, the review — published this week — evaluates cleanup efforts at two sites: the former Northernaire Plating Superfund site, where hexavalent chromium was the primary concern, and the Kysor Superfund site, which was contaminated with volatile organic compounds.

The city’s Local Development Finance Authority has overseen remediation efforts since 1996, managing soil cleanup, groundwater treatment, and long-term system maintenance.
