The RSPCA has launched an investigation after a dead dog was found in a suitcase in Barnet. The grim discovery was made on August 9 along a bridleway in Arkley Lane.

The animal charity said the bully breed dog was found with its head protruding from a suitcase, with visible decomposition around the eyes and muzzle.

Animal Rescue Officer Georgina Parsons said: “This is an extremely distressing discovery on a public right of way. The dog was in an advanced state of decomposition and appeared severely emaciated. The animal had no collar or tags, and a check for a microchip proved unsuccessful. Only two blankets were found alongside the dog inside the case.

“We’re asking anyone who saw anything suspicious in the area, or who has any information about this discovery to contact us.”
