A blundering thief was caught out after leading police on a low-speed chase - on a cricket club’s pitch roller. Leon Mitchell, 21, took the 6mph slow-moving roller - used for flattening wickets - for two miles after breaking into a village cricket club. ‌

Police were called by a spate of puzzled passers-by who noticed Mitchell trundling along on the cricket roller holding a bottle of wine. Prosecutor Amy Edwards said that instead of pulling over, Mitchell threw bricks from a bucket towards the police car
