HORRY COUNTY, S.C. (WBTW) -- A Horry County police sergeant died Friday after a personal health battle and medical complications, according to a department spokesperson.
Sgt. King Hemingway was 48. He worked with HCPD for 22 years, starting his career on patrol as he promoted through the department.
Over the years, Hemingway transitioned to the Criminal Investigations Division, where he served long-term in the Special Victims Unit and Homicide Unit, the department said. Most recently, he served in the Office of Professional Standards, then the Property Crimes Unit.
Hemingway also held a key role on the negotiations team within HCPD's Special Operations Division.
