Sue Lafreniere’s experience surviving cancer is a testament to dramatic advancements in cancer treatment.

The retired library tech has conquered breast and thyroid cancer, and is now being tested for kidney cancer.

Lafreniere has Cowden’s Syndrome, which makes her particularly susceptible to the disease, and a candidate for regular screening. Both her cancers had no symptoms and were caught through early detection.

“But anybody who has any history of cancer, I’d really urge them to stay on top of things, and be proactive and make sure they’re OK,” she told The Daily Press Thursday morning at Gilles Lake where the Timmins Terry Fox Run is set to take place Sunday, Sept. 14
