The deadliest animal in the world lives nationwide, and its population is growing in Nevada, especially in Las Vegas.

It's not mountain lions, wolves, bears or snakes. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the deadliest animal in the world is the mosquito.

"The mosquito kills more people than any other creature in the world," the CDC said, noting that they spread diseases such as malaria, dengue, West Nile, yellow fever, Zika and chikungunya .

What attracts mosquitoes?

Mosquitoes need standing water to lay eggs. They thrive in wet, warm places and are most active from dusk to dawn. They're typically drawn to:
