CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) - A man found dead in an abandoned northeast Charlotte building 16 years ago was identified.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police said they found the man’s body on Feb. 15, 2009, in a building on Idaho Drive. The medical examiner’s office was not able to identify the man’s cause of death or identity because of the decomposition.

The police department’s homicide cold case detectives identified the man as 67-year-old Robert Stinton through the use of new technology. The North Carolina State Crime Lab and CMPD’s Crime Lab helped in identifying Stinton.

No evidence found suggested foul play, police said. His cause of death remains undetermined.
