TOWN OF ASHLAND, N.Y. (WETM) — Two people walked away with minor injuries on Thursday after striking a 1,200-pound cow that was in the middle of the roadway on Interstate-86 in the Town of Ashland, totaling their vehicle, according to information from the Chemung County Sheriff's Office.
Around 8:38 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 21, deputies were sent to the eastbound lanes of I-86 close to Exit 57 for the report of a vehicle crash involving a cow.
Deputies arrived on scene and spoke with the male driver, who said he and a passenger were going from Liverpool, NY, to Owego, NY, when they noticed a cow in the middle of the highway.
The driver couldn't stop in time and hit the cow, killing the animal on impact, and causing severe damage to the front and roof of the vehicle.
