A two-vehicle crash that occurred Thursday afternoon in Cherokee County has claimed two lives.

The driver, an 18-year-old, and the passenger, a 12-year-old, both of Centre, were both fatally injured when the 2018 Subaru Crosstrek they were in was struck by a 2006 Kenworth tractor-trailer.

Their names were not released.

The tractor-trailer was driven by Keith L. Nance, 61, of Heflin, according to a statement from the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency.

Both were pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.

The crash occurred around 3:15 p.m. on Cherokee County 29 near Cherokee County 28, approximately nine miles northeast of Piedmont, in Cherokee County.

Nothing further is available as troopers with ALEA’s Highway Patrol Division continue to investigate, the release says.
