STAFFORD COUNTY, Va. (DC News Now) -- Deputies are warning the public of a mechanic service scheme that has targeted local drivers, the Stafford County Sheriff's Office announced Friday.
Deputies responded to reports of a scheme on Thursday around 5:45 p.m. The victim stated that she attempted to call a mechanic service that she saw online after her car broke down on Chatham Heights Road; however, help never arrived.
The victim claimed the person behind the scheme asked her to transfer money via Apple Pay to pay for the car part and reassured her that help would be on the way to repair her vehicle.
