Fresno firefighters contained a house fire Friday morning on the 1600 block of East Cambridge Avenue, preventing major damage, officials said.

Crews were dispatched shortly after 10 a.m. for reports of smoke coming from a home.

When firefighters arrived, they saw smoke coming from a second-story window and requested additional resources.

The fire was confined to the kitchen area, and no one was home at the time. No injuries were reported, according to the Fresno Fire Department.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Officials reminded residents to check that their homes have working smoke alarms, which they said save lives by providing early warning when seconds matter.
