CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) — Dominion Energy brought in crews from Northern Virginia and Richmond to restore power to the thousands who lost it in the Outer Banks after high winds and coastal flooding caused by Hurricane Erin hit the region.

“That helps to shorten the restoration time," said Cherise Newsome, . So when customers do lose power, then we have more hands on deck to be able to get the lights back on that much more quickly,” said Cherise Newsome, a spokesperson with Dominion.

Newsome said there were around 5,000 outages Thursday, but Dominion crews were able to get the lights back on by late Thursday night.

But even with the wind and coastal flooding, Dominion said their systems were prepared.
