MECOSTA COUNTY, MI – A woman was shot by Mecosta County sheriff’s deputies on Friday, Aug 22, after she reportedly threatened them with a weapon.
The incident happened at 11:20 a.m. when deputies were dispatched to a residence on Hayes Road, where a 36-year-old woman was refusing to leave someone else’s property, the sheriff’s office said in a news release.
Deputies said the woman refused to follow their commands and assaulted the responding officers. After the woman threatened the officers with a weapon, a deputy shot her with his firearm.
The sheriff’s office did not say what kind of weapon the woman had, but said it posed an “immediate and significant threat” to the deputies’ safety.
The woman was first taken to Corewell Health Big Rapids Hospital and then airlifted to Butterworth H
